CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

STORM

The first thing Storm noticed was that everything hurt. Her whole body ached and ached and she didn’t know why. She tried to open her eyes, but they wouldn’t respond.

“You need to wake up,” a girl said.

The voice sounded familiar, and Storm tried her hardest to remember who it was.

“Miles needs you,” the same girl said.

Hedda.

The only person Storm knew who knew Miles was Hedda.

Why was she here? Where was here? Why was Hedda telling her to wake up and that Miles needed her?

The last thing she remembered was Miles telling her he didn't want anything to do with her. She remembered having the feeling of people watching her and calling Miles as somebody broke into her house.

But after that, she didn't really remember anything. It was all a blur. She knew she’d been taken but she didn't know by whom.

“You really need to wake up. He's going crazy without you. He's been so cold toward everybody.” Hedda continued to talk. “He's been searching and searching for the person who did this to you. Said he was going to make them pay.”

Storm tried to open her eyes again, but they felt so heavy and didn't want to open. She didn't know why Miles was going after the person who did this to her.

She knew whoever had taken her had mentioned Miles' name several times, but how would Miles know that? He wasn't there and didn't know what happened.

“You need to wake up because Miles isn't thinking about the consequences. He's going to get himself killed and you're the only one who can ground him,” Hedda said, grabbing Storm’s hand. “He hasn't said this, but the way he looks at you makes me think he loves you and I know he wants to be with you.”

She could feel the warmth from Hedda's hand seep into her skin. It brought Storm back to when Miles held her when she was sick. When she asked for him to cuddle her and he did. That was one thing she was going to miss. She loved it when Miles had held her as she fell asleep.

Storm tried to wrap her brain around what Hedda was saying but it was hard. Miles had told her he didn't want anything to do with her and now he wanted to be with her? That wasn't how it worked and as much as she wanted to be with him, she didn't know if that was a wise idea.

But she also didn't want anything to happen to him. If that meant she had to “wake up” and talk to him, then she'd do it. She just didn't want it on her conscience if she could have done something and he ended up dead because she didn't.

Storm focused on twitching one of her fingers in the hand Hedda was holding. She had no clue if she was actually moving her finger or not, but for a second she thought she felt it twitch.

“Storm?” Hedda asked. “Can you hear me?”

She tried to twitch her finger again but when Hedda gave her a squeeze, she knew she hadn't.
